Our Magical Bathroom Makeover
We recently transformed a bathroom into a mystical, magical sanctuary, completing a long-awaited remodel. This project was a bold undertaking, and we can't wait to share our process and the fun decor choices we made along the way.

It’s been a long-time dream of mine to have a magical themed bathroom. I floated the idea to my husband, and to my delight, he immediately said, "Yes, we can do that!" I started collecting a few items here and there, and finally, we set a date to begin our magical transformation.
I quickly realized that while I had all the decor and color ideas in my head, my husband was the one who would help bring them to life. We started with prepping everything and painting, which seemed easy enough. Then came the wallpaper. Let me tell you, if you've never put up wallpaper before, it is definitely as hard—if not harder—than it sounds. We spent a solid hour learning all the ways not to apply wallpaper. But then, we found our rhythm, and the process became much smoother. And by that, I mean I gave him the idea of how to do it and my husband applied the wallpaper while I supervised, helping peel back the stickers here and there. Not saying I couldn't do it if need be, but I completely acknowledge that I am the designer and he is the executioner, he puts my thoughts in action.
After that, we installed the wall trim, which really tied the entire room together. I was in heaven with how it was all turning out, and the detailed work felt completely worth it. What we thought would be a one-day project quickly turned into much more though. At the end of the first day, we were only about halfway done. But we had the tedious work out of the way. The paint we got was called "boroughs of pine" and has a woodsy vibe that makes this remodel so magical. The trim is a basic design that we got at our local hardware store. We also painted the trim black or "tuxedo" if you will, to bring a darker vibe to this bathroom remodel.
The next day, it was time to install the chandelier—my husband’s brilliant idea, no really he said, "why don't we hang a chandelier up?" I immediately started searching and found a nice small Black one that would fit our space perfectly. While hanging it we soon discovered the old fixture was glued to the ceiling, which created a hole that required a drywall patch job. This prompted an additional run to the hardware store and the need to break out an additional saw. The donut shaped drywall proved to be the shape we needed and the project marched on.

With the more than we bargained for chandelier project complete, it was time for the details. My husband saved the day again, tackling the electrical work to replace the old switch and plate. Once those were installed, we moved on to the hand towel and toilet paper holders. It was amazing how these pieces brought a vintage, magical feel to the room. I remember commenting that the toilet paper roll was what really brought it all together—a hilarious reminder that our beautiful, magical space was still, in fact, a practical half-bathroom!
Amid all the excitement, I almost forgot we had to install the new black faucet. We originally planned to replace the toilet and sink with black ones—and if you've never seen a black toilet, you should; they're incredibly sleek! We ultimately chose just the black faucet, and I'm so glad we did. I didn't realize it when we were planning, but the white in the wallpaper perfectly ties in with the white sink and toilet. The black faucet and toilet handle now add a stunning pop of contrast, giving the room a dark, magical vibe.

The theme really comes to life with the new decor. I found a ceramic air freshener shaped like an ink pen that has an incredible scent. The soap bowl is a black cauldron that's technically a soup bowl, and it even came with a little spoon—perfect for scooping! We also hung a Marauder's Map picture on the wall. For the floor, we chose a simple black rug and garbage can. While I was tempted to get a witch or wizard-themed carpet, I decided a plain one would better complement the other decor without making the room feel too busy. In addition to the chandelier on the ceiling I hung "floating" hanging lights, for that great hall vibe.
To complement the white cabinet and sink, I installed a new green pumpkin knob on the cabinet door. Upgrading cabinet hardware is a simple, high-impact change that really elevates a space beyond plain, standard pieces. I also took a piece of the wallpaper and centered it on the cabinet door, adding a unique, personalized touch. Yes, I actually adhered some of that wallpaper!
The project was essentially complete, but we were waiting on one key piece: the mirror. It was an Amazon purchase that was running a day behind. I found myself listening to every sound outside, hoping for the delivery truck. When it finally arrived and was hung, it was the perfect final touch. We spent two and a half days transforming a small 4x4 room, and I can honestly say it was all worth it. I am completely obsessed with the end result. I couldn't have done it without my husband, who patiently handled my creative "madness" and kept his cool when I wanted to get rid of the wallpaper and chandelier. I truly had a great time and have the half bathroom I envisioned.
